Welcome to the Finnish Embassy web pages!

Did you know that Bulgaria had a Finnish prime minister? Did you also know that Finns fought in the Balkans for the freedom of Bulgaria? Bulgarians certainly do.

Common history, Finland's modern accomplishments, Bulgaria's position as the ninth most popular charter holiday resort (2013) and Bulgaria's EU-membership have increased the bilateral knowledge of these two countries. Bulgaria's EU-membership was negotiated during Finland's EU presidency in 1999. The country joined the EU on 1 January 2007 following the end of the Finnish second Presidency  on 31 December 2006.

Closer bilateral relationship is evidenced by the growing amount of service-oriented duties of the Finnish Embassy. Bulgaria's expeditious economic growth has roused attention of Finnish companies. Bulgaria´s trade with the EU-countries has been increasing continuously. Bulgaria's EU-membership offers also to Finnish companies more opportunities in terms of trade and investments.

In 2013 the number of Finnish charter tourists in Bulgaria reached around 20 500. Popular places to visit are e.g. Varna and Burgas at the Black Sea coast. Regardless of the season, Bulgaria offers adventurous experiences from hiking and skiing to cultural and spa holidaying.

The first Finnish Honorary Consulate opened in Varna 2006 helps to serve all the objectives of the Finnish Embassy.
